This is my practical experience for my RILS. Here is the lesson plan that was used. We only did the first session since this was just an experiment.
Session 1:
· Icebreaker/Warm-up (JamLegend)
· Introduction to the mother of all instruments (Piano)
· How to hold your hands, Posture
· Introduction to the notes on the piano
· Call and response for the notes on the piano/practice with a partner
Homework: Study the notes and get a good grasp on where each one is located
Session 2:
· Icebreaker/Warm-up (JamLegend)
· Review of last class
· Introduction to scales
· How a scale is formed
· How to do major scales
· Practice scales with a partner for the rest of class
Homework: Study the scales and practice all of them
Session 3:
· Icebreaker/Warm-up (JamLegend)
· Review of last class session
· Introduction to minor scales
· How to form minor scales
· Practice minor scales with a fellow classmate for the rest of class
Homework: Practice minor scales
Session 4:
· Icebreaker/Warm-up (JamLegend)
· Review of last two classes
· Have students perform one major scale and one minor scale each
· How to form a run from scales
· Have students form their own runs with a partner and do them at the end of class
Homework: Students will be given a song to listen to
Session 5:
· Icebreaker/Warm-up (JamLegend)
· Introduction to ear training
· How to determine what key a song is in
· Introduction to major chords
· Have students team up with a partner and practice major chords in every key
Homework: Students will practice major chords and ear training
Session 6:
· Icebreaker/Warm-up (JamLegend)
· Review of last session
· Introduction to minor chords
· Students will play minor chords in each key
· Practice minor chords with fellow classmates
Homework: Continue to practice minor chords
Session 7:
· Icebreaker/Warm-up (JamLegend)
· Students will put together song
· Students will practice/intermingle with fellow classmates for the rest of class
Homework: Students will continue to practice both songs
Session 8:
· Icebreaker/Warm-up (JamLegend)
· Students will practice their songs
· Students will individually play each song for the class

After implementing this plan, I would like to move forward with the same plan, without making any changes. We really captured the interest of the children. They were hungry for more. JamLegend is truly a life-saver. It was an excellent way to begin class.
